What is Alpha-Stim Therapy?

Alpha-Stim is an electrotherapy device that has shown to be very effective in treating anxiety, depression, and insomnia. It has also been proven to be a great tool for the purpose of pain management. Users of Alpha-Stim wonʼt need to worry about any side effects or negative reactions to medications being taken

How Does Alpha-Stim Work?

Alpha-Stim is a cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) device, almost similar in size to a small cellphone. It is designed to deliver a very tiny microcurrent, through small clips attached to a personʼs earlobes, to the brain. This current, which is so gentle that few people can feel it, will then stimulate and adjust a specific set of nerve cells in the brain. CES can bring relief to those who have anxiety and depression. It can also counter insomnia and improve sleep quality significantly.

Alpha-Stim treatment usually lasts for 20 minutes and up to an hour, depending on what the doctor says. Being a portable device, treatment can be done at the office during a long break, in the privacy of your own home, or at a therapy center. With the clips being small and attached to your ears, you will look like you are relaxing while listening to music.

Alpha-Stim can also be used to provide electrical stimulation on areas of the body that is experiencing post-traumatic, acute, or chronic pain for pain management.

How Currents Affect your Brain

Sending very tiny pulses of electrical current to the brain may sound unsafe, but it is far from dangerous. The Alpha-Stim device sends out a pulse that is 50 to 500 millionths of an ampere, which is negligible when compared to the amount used in electroshock therapy.

The tiny pulses of electricity create different reactions in the brain. CES helps stimulate underactive parts of the brain while calming the more overactive parts. For example, in the case of people who suffer anxiety, Alpha-Stim will activate the area of the brain that controls the release of serotonin. At the same time, it will soothe the amygdala, the part of the brain that processes fear.

Can I use Alpha-stim if I take medication?

Taking medication to treat a condition, both mental and physical, has always been the common course of action. However, as a person takes medication over a long period of time, they start to build up a slight resistance to it. And when the dosage is increased to compensate, they may develop an unhealthy dependency on it. Or worse, they can impact major body organs, like the heart and liver.

Alpha-Stim can be used in conjunction with taking prescribed medication. It is not intended to replace medication completely. However, Alpha-Stim can be used as a viable alternative when they donʼt seem to be effective or if a person has an allergy when taking a specific medicine. Being drug-free, a user of Alpha-Stim will not have to worry about suffering unwanted side effects or becoming overly dependent.
