About Shawna
“It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.” — Aristotle
Shawna Scarnato was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas; surrounded by a family she adored. Both her father and grandfather served in the military, which significantly influenced her life.
After earning a bachelorʼs degree from A&M Kingsville; with a major in psychology and a minor in criminology; she continued her education and earned a masterʼs degree in counseling from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2006. She began working with the homeless population, including The Battered Womenʼs Shelter and several other shelters throughout the San Antonio area. Since then, sheʼs expanded her expertise in working with adolescents, families, and those suffering from trauma. Prior to joining the Innova family, Shawna worked at Laurel Ridge Treatment Center for over 10 years as a Program Coordinator, Program Manager, and Lead Therapist, helping those suffering from a variety of diagnoses including Bipolar Disorder, depression, PTSD, and conflictual family dynamics.
Sheʼs trained and well-versed in multiple therapies, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), as well as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
She enjoys spending time and working out with her husband, watching movies, running, playing with their German Shepherd, Zeus, and spending time with family and friends.
