About Shawna
“It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.” — Aristotle
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a passion for helping individuals, adolescents, and families navigate life’s challenges. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, I was deeply influenced by my family, including my father and grandfather, who both served in the military. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminology from Texas A&M Kingsville and went on to complete my Master’s degree in Counseling from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2006.
My career began working with San Antonio’s homeless population, including The Battered Women’s Shelter and other local shelters, where I developed a strong foundation in trauma-informed care. I later spent over a decade at Laurel Ridge Treatment Center as a Program Coordinator, Program Manager, and Lead Therapist, working with individuals struggling with Bipolar Disorder, depression, PTSD, and complex family dynamics.
I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), using a client-centered approach to support healing and resilience.
Outside of work, I enjoy working out and spending time with my husband, watching movies, running, and playing with our German Shepherd, Zeus. I also love connecting with family and friends, cherishing the relationships that bring joy and balance to life.
