Innova Recovery Center, in proud partnership with Hausmann Millworks, invites you to an evening that nourishes the soul. Canvas + Smoke marks the official unveiling of The Innova Collection: a bold and moving series of large-scale works by celebrated San Antonio artist Rex Hausmann. In true Texas fashion, we’re celebrating this prestigious opening with something truly communal, utterly local, and profoundly human: brisket.
21 Briskets is more than just a meal: it’s an art project that speaks the same language as the paintings on the wall. For Rex, art and food are parallel ways of connection: both are passed down, deeply personal, and best when shared and experienced together. Each brisket, crafted by a different person with their own individual recipe and story, serves as a tribute to legacy, culture, and the bonds that bring us together.
This is Texas. This is who we are. We gather around fire and flavor, sharing stories through brushstrokes and barbecue. On this night, we’ll embrace all of it: our roots, our creativity, and one another.
The evening will also feature the exclusive release of Rex’s latest book, Notes Under the Texas Sun, including a special on-site book signing where guests can meet the artist and learn about the meaning behind his creative works.

Celebrate with us Texas-style by savoring brisket cooked in 21 distinct styles, each prepared by a different person with their own techniques and traditions. It’s a one-of-a-kind culinary art installation that brings people together to share heritage, pride, and the ties that make us who we are.
Notes Under the Texas Sun Book Release & Signing
Meet Rex Hausmann in person and take home a signed copy of his eighth book, Notes Under the Texas Sun, where Rex shares insights on his creativity with intimate reflections and stories from Spain, France, Italy, New York City, and, of course, San Antonio, among others. A labor of love five years in the making, this book is the perfect complement to the breathtaking art showcased in this special exhibition.
About Rex Hausmann
Rex Hausmann is a nationally recognized contemporary artist based in San Antonio. Known for his vivid large-scale paintings and storytelling through symbols, color, and place, his work has been featured at the Smithsonian, Neiman Marcus, and TEDx San Antonio. Rex believes deeply in the power of local roots, creative community, and the philosophy to “grow where you are planted.”
